Meg’s Review:

I was asked by the author to review her book and to give my honest opinion about it. Well. Here it is. This book was fantastic. I love a good twist and this book had them in spades. It had the love aspect, the action, the mystery, the suspense, and the attention grabbing plot line.

It was really great. One of those books you start and can’t put down. The characters were very well developed and you really get a chance to peak into their minds. I really enjoy when you get that special extra with a story and I felt it added to this one big time. They were relatable and even with the partial supernatural twists, you could see yourself and common problems in the characters. I read this book as a standalone and it was fantastic. It is the second book in the series and believe me I have already downloaded book one with intentions of starting it as soon as possible.

This book follows Ana in her journey running from her life in New Orleans to find a new fresh start in Maine. Little does she know the past always comes back to find you. Ana is gifted. She can heal. The catch? It only works on herself. This is a big part of her running, but the rest? Thats the big secret you can’t wait to read about. To add to the mix we have not one, but 2 men that inadvertently end up smack in the middle of her life. The Storm and the Darkness have thrown them together and its debatable what will save them in the end.

The end was a rough spot for me, not because of the writing or what was in it, but I felt it could have used a little more. A few of the characters I felt were gipped but I have a feeling their time is coming. You will see when you read it. I think I will gain a better understanding with the first book under my belt as far as the characters and their lives. All in All a fantastic read and a definitely favorite for me this year.

Synopsis:

Ana Deschanel has made a terrible mistake. The only chance of protecting the other people involved is to flee New Orleans, the only home she has ever known, for the quiet solitude of Summer Island. Summer Island, Maine (population 202) is not the tranquil escape Ana imagined. The locals are distant and cold, especially her neighbor, the reclusive veterinarian Jonathan St. Andrews. Her only lifeline is the kind but odd caretaker Alex Whitman. Showing up at all the right moments, he warns her she is completely unprepared for a Maine winter. As the first winter storm approaches to whispers of an island shutdown- Ana realizes that she may soon be cut off from the rest of the world. After a surprising encounter with Jonathan’s brother, Finn, Ana finds herself braving the storm to return something to him. Unprepared for the Maine storm, she slips and falls onto the jagged rocks along the shore. The St. Andrews brothers find her in the nick of time, but she remains unconscious. As the storm worsens, the St. Andrews brothers learn there are other, more sinister forces at work closer than they ever imagined. With no help from the outside world, they must find a way to protect themselves from both the storm, and the growing darkness that looms across the island.
